WoodNet Members Showcase Pure Catskills Wood Products at Architectural Digest Show

On March 26-29, 2009, ten Catskill WoodNet members joined forces with wood products firms in New England to showcase a variety of hand-crafted items in the 2009 Architectural Digest Home Design Show. The booth space was made possible through a collaboration with the WoodNet Market Council and The Fine Artisan.

"I am very grateful for the opportunity to participate in connecting to the New York design market", stated Hoppy Quick, whose cedar and wild blueberry pergola attracted visitors to the booth. "This is a show I could have not done on my own without the help of the Watershed Agricultural Council (WAC)and other Catskill WoodNet members."

"Even in a lackluster economy, the exposure at this show is invaluable.", stated Joanne Grigoriev of Nikita Indoor/Outdoor Convertible Furnishings in Oneonta. "We sold two pieces and took information to follow up with several other potential buyers."

Many visitors to the booth were part-time Catskill residents but unfamiliar with the breadth and talents of Catskill woodworkers and the watershed forests from where the wood originates. Therefore, staff from the WAC Forestry Program was on hand to distribute the Pure Catskills Wood Products Directory.

The participation of many Catskill WoodNet members helped the booth really stand out amidst a sea of other exhibitors. WAC staff plans to follow up with exhibitors in the coming months to track sales and leads resulting from the show.

The show was made possible through a grant from the USDA Wood Education Resource Center.
